More than a reformer class. A complete Pilates practice.

The Willow Studio Ealing showing Reformer and Ladder Barrel Pilates apparatus

Today, most Pilates studios in Ealing offer reformer classes. At The Willow Studio, Pilates is taught as the comprehensive method Joseph Pilates intended, across the full apparatus, with depth, precision and over 30 years of teaching experience. Beginners are welcome and so is anyone who has tried Pilates before and found it did not quite work for them.

Find the right way in.

Studio sessions begin with a conversation, and small group places follow an initial 1:1 so Liz knows how you move before you join a group. The online mat Pilates practice can be booked directly.

Reformer was never meant to stand alone.

Reformer Pilates has become the best known part of the method. But it was always designed as one piece within a much larger system, and teaching it in isolation misses most of what makes Pilates so effective.

At The Willow Studio Liz looks at the person in front of her and selects what that body needs that day, always drawing on the full apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector. Not a class format adjusted for one person. A session built entirely around you.

Liz has been teaching Pilates for over 30 years. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dance, has spent 35 years in movement education, and has been training other movement professionals for 25 years. She is one of very few coaches in the area qualified across the full Pilates repertoire.

The Willow Studio, purpose-built Pilates garden studio in Ealing, West London

A purpose-built studio. A proper escape.

The Willow Studio is a garden studio in West Ealing, light-filled, quiet and surrounded by greenery, a few minutes from Ealing Broadway.

Clients come in carrying the day and leave having actually switched off for an hour. That is not an accident. It was built to feel like that.

Fully equipped with the complete Pilates apparatus, well lit for evening sessions and accessed privately. A small space where the focus stays entirely on the work.

"Sessions with Liz feel like a hugely effective workout combined with self care."

Most people arrive because something wasn't working elsewhere.

Current clients include women managing scoliosis, kyphosis, frozen shoulder and chronic back pain. Riders and yogis whose bodies need postural support. People recovering from surgery. Women navigating perimenopause. A 30 year old physiotherapist. An 89 year old working on balance and posture.

Some have done Pilates before and found group classes too generic. Some have never tried it. Some come for the physical work. Some come because it is the one hour in the week that is entirely theirs.

Studio slots are by appointment only and availability is limited. If you are thinking about it, the best first step is a free 15-minute call.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact method of exercise that builds strength, control and flexibility through precise, controlled movement. It works from the inside out, treating the spine as the central column of the body. Learning to control and manage spinal movement, in every plane of motion, is the root of all other movement. This matters more than ever in daily life, where most of us rarely move away from an upright position. This focus on the spine is what shapes Pilates around core stability, posture and alignment.

What is reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates uses a specialist piece of equipment, the Reformer, to add resistance and support to Pilates exercises. At The Willow Studio, the Reformer is one of several pieces of equipment used within comprehensive 1:1 Pilates sessions, alongside the Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector. Every piece supports the same underlying idea: moving the spine through different planes and learning to control this as the centre of all movement.

Is reformer Pilates worth it?

Yes, when it's part of a well-rounded, properly tailored practice. Rather than being offered as a standalone class, reformer work at Shaw Lifestyle is woven into fully personalised 1:1 sessions, so equipment and exercises are chosen to suit each person's body and goals.

How much is a Pilates class?

1:1 Pilates sessions at The Willow Studio start at £65, with a reduced rate of £50 per session when booking multiple sessions per week. Shared studio sessions are also available at £45 per person.

Is Pilates 3 times a week enough?

Frequency depends on individual goals and is discussed as part of a session plan. Many clients see good progress with once or twice weekly 1:1 sessions, particularly when combined with home practice or online mat classes between sessions.

What is the difference between yoga and Pilates?

Yoga tends to focus on flexibility, breath and mind-body connection through held postures, while Pilates focuses on core strength, control and precise movement patterns, often using specialist equipment. Many clients find the two complement each other well.

Do you offer group Pilates classes in Ealing?

Small group sessions start at The Willow Studio in September, for two or three people, with a second reformer now in the space. They are not a class in the usual sense: the work is still tailored in the moment rather than a routine everyone follows. Alongside those, sessions run 1:1, and the online mat Pilates practice runs weekly from £6.50 a class.

Can beginners do Pilates at The Willow Studio?

Yes, and a good number of clients start with no experience at all. Because sessions are 1:1 or shared rather than a class, the starting point is set around you rather than the group. The first session is a conversation and a movement assessment, not a workout.

Where in Ealing is the studio?

The Willow Studio is in West Ealing, W13, a few minutes from Ealing Broadway, with the Everstrong Gym for strength training on the same site. Sessions are by appointment and the studio is accessed privately.
